Nayame Targets Final Copper Queens Squad After WAFCON Provisional Call-Up

Kansanshi Dynamos Queens FC striker Theresa Nayame says she is focused on earning a place in the final squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after being named in Zambia’s provisional team.

Nayame has been included in a 28-player camp assembled by head coach Nora Häuptle as preparations intensify for the continental tournament, where competition for places is expected to be fierce.

Her call-up follows an outstanding season in the ZPL Women’s National League – North, where she finished as top scorer with 17 goals, a performance that played a key role in Kansanshi Dynamos Queens’ successful campaign.

The forward expressed her excitement at making the provisional squad, describing it as a significant milestone and a chance to prove herself at international level. She emphasised that hard work and discipline would be crucial if she is to progress into the final WAFCON selection.

“I’m happy to be part of the squad; it is not easy to be considered among many players in the country,” she said. “This is an opportunity to show hard work so that I can fight for a final place. The only way is hard work and listening to the coach’s instructions.”

Nayame also noted that adapting to the national team environment has been smooth, pointing out that she has previously played alongside several teammates from youth international setups, which has helped her settle quickly into camp.

She added that it remains every player’s dream to represent the senior national team, with the ultimate goal being selection for the final tournament squad.

With her strong domestic form and growing confidence, Nayame will be hoping to carry her scoring touch into camp as she competes for a place in Zambia’s final WAFCON roster.
