Chiyangi Concerned by Green Buffaloes’ Goal-Scoring Problems Ahead of Red Arrows Clash

Buffaloes Coach Admits Team Must Improve Its Attack After Struggling for Goals This Season

Aggrey Chiyangi has admitted that Green Buffaloes must urgently improve its attacking options after another difficult season in front of goal.

The experienced coach believes the club’s lack of clinical finishing has affected results throughout the campaign and says strengthening the striking department will be one of the team’s main priorities once the season ends.

Chiyangi Highlights Lack of Goals

Speaking ahead of Buffaloes’ final league match of the season, Chiyangi said the club cannot ignore its scoring struggles, especially with the team’s leading scorer managing only five goals.

“The striking department is an area we are looking at very seriously,” Chiyangi said.

“When your top scorer only has five goals, it clearly shows there is a problem. Football is about scoring goals, and if you fail to score, winning games becomes difficult.”

Focus Turns to Military Derby

Despite concerns over the attack, Chiyangi insists Buffaloes remain fully focused on finishing the season strongly when they face Red Arrows in a military derby on Friday at Nkoloma Stadium.

Buffaloes currently sit 12th on the MTN Super League table with 41 points, while Red Arrows occupy second position with 60 points heading into the final round of fixtures.

“Players Do Not Want to Lose”

Chiyangi revealed that preparations for the derby have been intense, with players fully aware of the importance of the encounter.

“We have prepared very well because this is always a special game,” he explained.

“The players understand the importance of a military derby and naturally they do not want to lose. We know the game will be tough, so we have worked hard to motivate the squad.”

Moving On From Kabwe Defeat

The Buffaloes coach has also encouraged his players to quickly recover mentally from their recent defeat in Kabwe and shift all attention toward the final fixture.

“We have told the players to forget what happened in Kabwe and focus on the next challenge,” Chiyangi said.

“Even though we lost, the players showed commitment and worked very hard. Unfortunately, we could not find the goals we needed.”

Expecting Another Tough Encounter

Chiyangi expects Friday’s match to be another highly competitive contest similar to the first-round meeting between the two sides, which ended in a draw.

According to the coach, maintaining composure while matching the intensity of the occasion will be key for his players.

“We expect the intensity to be very high, so we have prepared the players mentally,” he added.

“At the same time, we want them to remain calm and play freely without too much pressure because pressure can lead to mistakes. Teamwork will be very important for us.”
