FAWUZ Urges Players to Avoid Boycotts Amid Salary Disputes

Kumwenda Calls for Patience as Union Pledges Support for Affected Footballers

The Footballers and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (FAWUZ) has advised players to avoid taking drastic action when faced with salary delays and contractual disagreements, urging them instead to seek support through the union.

FAWUZ president Sandras Kumwenda said the organization remains committed to protecting the rights and welfare of footballers while ensuring they can focus on their careers in a stable and supportive environment.

Union Encourages Professional Approach

Kumwenda appealed to players across the country not to resort to training boycotts, work stoppages or other forms of protest, even when faced with frustrating circumstances.

He stressed that the union exists to represent players and address their concerns through established channels, allowing footballers to continue their professional responsibilities while disputes are being handled.

According to Kumwenda, players should trust FAWUZ to engage with clubs and relevant authorities on their behalf whenever challenges arise.

Unpaid Salaries Remain a Concern

The FAWUZ president acknowledged that delayed salaries and contractual disputes continue to affect a number of players in Zambian football.

He expressed concern over reports suggesting that some footballers, both at club and national team level, have not been receiving payments as agreed in their contracts.

Kumwenda noted that such situations are particularly worrying because many players depend entirely on football as their source of income and use their earnings to support themselves and their families.

Commitment to Protecting Players

FAWUZ has reassured players that it remains committed to pursuing justice for anyone affected by salary-related issues.

Kumwenda said the union will continue engaging clubs and stakeholders in an effort to ensure outstanding payments are settled and contractual obligations are honoured.

He emphasized that FAWUZ views constructive engagement as the most effective way of resolving disputes while maintaining positive relationships within the game.

Strong Record of Success

The union leader revealed that FAWUZ has successfully assisted numerous players in recovering unpaid wages and resolving employment-related disputes.

He attributed much of that success to the union’s preference for dialogue and negotiation rather than confrontation.

According to Kumwenda, the organization has established a track record of helping players secure fair outcomes through professional representation and legal processes.

Further Action Available

While prioritising discussion and mediation, Kumwenda explained that FAWUZ is prepared to pursue stronger measures whenever necessary.

Where efforts to reach an agreement fail, the union can escalate matters through the relevant Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) judicial bodies.

In cases requiring further intervention, disputes may also be referred to FIFA through the appropriate channels.

FAWUZ believes this structured approach offers players the best opportunity to secure justice while protecting their careers and preserving the integrity of the game.
