Lecce Probe Lameck Banda’s Delayed Return as Disciplinary Action Looms

Serie A side US Lecce have launched an investigation into Lameck Banda’s delayed return for pre-season training, with the club warning that disciplinary action could follow if his absence is deemed unjustified.

The Zambia international was expected to report for the start of pre-season preparations but has yet to rejoin his teammates in Italy.

According to a statement released by the club, Banda has informed Lecce that ongoing logistical and bureaucratic issues have prevented him from travelling back to Italy.

“Lameck Banda, already called up for the resumption of sporting activities, has informed the club today of the continued logistical and bureaucratic problems that have, until now, prevented his return to Italy,” Lecce said.

Club Opens Investigation

While acknowledging the player’s explanation, Lecce confirmed they will investigate the circumstances surrounding his delayed return before determining their next course of action.

The club stressed that it reserves the right to impose disciplinary measures should it find that Banda has failed to meet his contractual obligations.

“The club will carry out the necessary investigations into the circumstances cited by the player, reserving the right to take any appropriate measures, including disciplinary action, aimed at ensuring the proper fulfilment of his contractual obligations,” the statement added.

Transfer Speculation Continues

Banda remains under contract with Lecce until 30 June 2027, but his future at the club has been the subject of increasing speculation during the current transfer window.

The 24-year-old has recently been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with reports from Al Youm Newspaper claiming that Al-Fateh have submitted an offer for the Zambian winger.

For now, Lecce’s immediate focus remains on resolving Banda’s absence as preparations continue ahead of the new Serie A season.
