Ex-Liverpool Academy Director Among Contenders for Zesco United Job
Former Liverpool Football Academy director in Cyprus, Andreas Vrakas, has emerged as one of the leading candidates for the vacant Zesco United head coach position, BolaNews sources have confirmed.
The Ndola giants are continuing their search for a new manager ahead of the 2026/27 transitional league season, with Vrakas among the coaches who have already been interviewed for the role.
Zesco United recently confirmed they would not retain club legend Winston Kalengo, who took charge on an interim basis following the departure of Emmanuel Siwale.
Last week, the nine-time MTN Super League champions advertised the vacant position, outlining the profile of the coach they are seeking to lead the club into a new era.
Among the key requirements is a CAF A Licence or its equivalent, a qualification that considerably narrows the list of eligible candidates, with only a small number of local coaches meeting the criteria.
Vrakas, 36, holds a UEFA A Licence and boasts more than 13 years of coaching experience, having spent the majority of his career in Cyprus, alongside a brief spell coaching in Greece.
According to BolaNews sources, one of his first major coaching opportunities came when he worked alongside former Croatia international and ex-Bayern Munich defender Daniel Pranjić, gaining valuable experience in European football.
Beyond his coaching credentials, Vrakas has a strong background in football development and performance analysis. He previously served as director of the Liverpool Football Academy in Cyprus and is also trained in football analytics, bringing a modern, data-driven approach to coaching.
Zesco United are understood to be continuing the interview process and evaluating applications before making a final decision on their next head coach, who will be tasked with guiding the club into the transitional league season set to begin in September.
