“Early Support Could Have Changed Our Season” — Tembo Reflects on Nkwazi’s Struggles

Nkwazi head coach Masauso Tembo has suggested that earlier backing from the club’s leadership could have significantly influenced their season, following a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Red Arrows in the MTN Super League.
The Week 26 encounter at Nkoloma Stadium saw Nkwazi deliver a disciplined defensive performance, earning a valuable point away from home against one of the league’s stronger sides.
Disciplined Display Against Red Arrows
Tembo praised his players for sticking to the game plan, especially after recent issues with conceding early goals in matches.
He explained that the approach was to remain compact and organised in the first half, which helped the team secure a clean sheet.
“A draw was a positive result for us playing away to Red Arrows,” Tembo said. “We have been allowing early goals, so I told the players to sit behind the ball in the first half. They did well to stay organised.”
Despite focusing on defensive stability, he also felt his side created enough chances to take all three points.
“We created chances, maybe one or two we should have scored. I’m happy with the shape and discipline,” he added.
Signs of Improvement in Survival Fight
The result marked Nkwazi’s second consecutive draw, a small but important improvement as they continue their battle to avoid relegation.
Tembo remains optimistic that his side still has enough time to secure their top-flight status if they can turn improved performances into wins.
“Two draws in a row gives us a chance to fight,” he said. “Next game we have to go for maximum points.”
Questions Over Timing of Support
Beyond the tactical analysis, Tembo also raised concerns about the timing of support from the club’s leadership, suggesting it arrived later than expected in the season.
He acknowledged the current backing from the club but hinted that earlier intervention could have changed their position in the table.
“The support has come at the right time. Even in football, teams can recover when there is backing,” he said.
However, he added a note of frustration over the timing.
“I’m surprised it’s coming now. If it had come earlier, things would have been different. But the important thing is that the support continues for the players.”
Fight for Survival Continues
With the season entering its decisive phase, Nkwazi remain focused on turning draws into victories as they aim to escape the relegation zone.
While the result against Red Arrows may not have brought goals, it offered signs of structure, discipline, and resilience as Tembo’s side looks to steady their campaign at a critical moment.
