Shumah Overlooked Again as McCarthy Announces Kenya Squad

Power Dynamos Goal Machine Misses Out Despite Record-Breaking Season
Power Dynamos striker Moses Shumah has once again been left out of the Kenya national football team squad despite enjoying one of the most prolific seasons in recent Zambian football history.
Kenya head coach Bennie McCarthy omitted the 23-year-old forward from his latest squad for the upcoming FIFA international window, a decision that is likely to spark fresh debate among supporters.
Outstanding Season Fails to Earn Call-Up
Shumah played a crucial role in Power Dynamos’ successful league campaign, finishing as the MTN Super League’s leading scorer with 21 goals.
The Kenyan forward became the first player since 2018 to reach the 20-goal milestone in Zambia’s top division, strengthening his case for a return to the national team.
Many football fans expected his impressive performances to earn him a place in the Harambee Stars squad, but the striker was once again overlooked.
Kenya Set for Lesotho Double-Header
Kenya’s original international fixtures against Palestine and Kyrgyzstan were cancelled, leading to a change in plans for the June international window.
The Harambee Stars will now face Lesotho national football team in a two-match series.
Both fixtures are scheduled to take place at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
The first match will be played on June 4, 2026, with the second encounter set for June 7.
Shumah Previously Addressed National Team Snub
Earlier this year, Shumah spoke about his disappointment after missing out on previous national team selections despite maintaining excellent form for Power Dynamos.
“I cannot really say why I am not being called up,” Shumah said.
“That decision belongs to the coaches and the officials. My responsibility is to keep working hard and continue scoring goals.”
The striker added that his focus remains on performing consistently whenever he gets the opportunity to play.
International Experience
Shumah made his senior debut for Kenya in 2023 and has so far earned four appearances for the national team.
He has scored one goal in national team colours and remains hopeful of adding to his international tally in the future.
Despite another omission, the Power Dynamos forward will take confidence from a season that saw him help the club secure the league title while establishing himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in the MTN Super League.
