SULOM Hearing Postponed After FAM Requests More Time

The disciplinary hearing involving the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has been postponed after the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) reportedly requested more time to prepare its case.

SULOM appeared before the FAM Disciplinary Committee on Saturday to answer a number of charges stemming from its decision to stage an FDH Bank Premiership fixture at Kamuzu Stadium despite a directive prohibiting the venue’s use.

On June 12, FAM summoned the league governing body over the incident, accusing it of breaching football regulations and disregarding directives issued by the association.

Among the charges, SULOM is accused of failing to take adequate steps to prevent violations of FAM statutes, directives and decisions, contrary to Article 3(1) of the SULOM Constitution. The league body also faces allegations of failing to comply with obligations arising from FAM statutes and regulations under Article 16(p) of the FAM Statutes.

However, a source familiar with the proceedings told BolaNews that the hearing could not proceed after SULOM raised concerns about the charges presented by FAM.

“When the meeting started, SULOM informed the FAM representatives that after reviewing the charges, they discovered that some of the articles cited were incorrect and unrelated to the matter at hand,” the source said.

“For example, some of the provisions referenced concerned women’s football and had no connection to the allegations being brought against SULOM.”

According to the source, FAM officials requested a break to review the concerns before later informing SULOM that the matter would be adjourned to allow the association to properly prepare its case.

The dispute stems from FAM’s decision on April 23, 2026, to ban the hosting of matches at Kamuzu Stadium pending inspection and approval. Despite the directive, SULOM proceeded to schedule and stage a league match between Mighty Wanderers and Karonga United at the venue.

A new date for the disciplinary hearing is yet to be announced.
