Zambia Set To Host Four-Nation Tournament Ahead of WAFCON 2026

Copper Queens to Use June Competition as Key Preparation for Continental Championship

Zambia women’s national football team will host a Four-Nation Tournament during the June FIFA international window as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The tournament is scheduled to take place between June 1 and June 9, 2026, with several African nations expected to participate.

Kenya and Zimbabwe Confirmed

So far, Kenya women’s national football team and Zimbabwe women’s national football team have confirmed their participation in the competition.

Burkina Faso women’s national football team had initially been expected to join the tournament, but their participation is now uncertain, with organisers reportedly searching for a replacement team.

Nora Häuptle Expected Back

Copper Queens head coach Nora Häuptle is expected to return to Zambia on Sunday ahead of the tournament.

A press conference is also anticipated where the Swiss tactician is likely to unveil her squad for the competition.

Kenya Outline Tournament Schedule

Kenya has already confirmed part of its schedule for the tournament.

The East African side will begin its campaign against Zimbabwe on June 6 before facing hosts Zambia on June 9.

The tournament is expected to provide all participating teams with valuable match practice ahead of major continental assignments later in the year.

Focus on WAFCON 2026

The Four-Nation Tournament forms part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which will run from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

The continental championship will also serve as a qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, adding even greater importance to the upcoming tournament preparations.
